Publish Date: 2026.07.31

As cities navigate complex climate risks and rapid technological transformation, innovative approaches are essential for advancing sustainable urban development. However, technology alone cannot create resilient cities. Collaboration among governments, businesses, research institutions, NGOs, and communities is crucial to ensuring that innovation responds effectively to local needs and climate challenges.

In the following report, eleven smart city cases illustrate diverse pathways toward sustainable urban transformation. The featured cities demonstrate how emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence and digital infrastructure, are integrated with local contexts to address challenges such as data governance, resource efficiency, disaster preparedness, and public service accessibility. Cases from Kaohsiung, Singapore, and Naga City highlight how innovation can be adapted to different urban conditions and development priorities.

Through these cases, this report highlights the role of technology, collaboration, and knowledge sharing in strengthening urban resilience. The International Climate Development Institute (ICDI) remains committed to connecting global partners and supporting cities in balancing technological advancement, economic development, and environmental sustainability.
