Issue No.33
Publish Date: 2026.09

The 33rd edition of Climate & Finance turns from declaration to implementation, tracking how climate commitments are converting into binding corporate, monetary, and trade practice in 2026, against a backdrop of super El Niño warnings and geopolitical shocks including the Strait of Hormuz blockade.
This edition traces that shift across four fronts: SBTi’s Net-Zero Standard V2.0 ties net-zero credibility to capital expenditure and asset retirement; CBAM’s entry into force is driving defensive carbon-pricing schemes in the UK, Taiwan, Japan, and India; the ECB has extended its climate factor to bank credit claims with haircuts of up to 5 percent; and the Philippines’ GEA-5 offshore wind auction highlights blended-finance solutions for emerging-market renewables.
Finally, we turn to SB64 in Bonn, where developing and developed countries remained divided over who should pay for climate finance, though talks on linking technology and funding saw rare progress ahead of COP31.
